Hearts defender Craig Halkett was ruled out for around 10 weeks director Craig Levein has verified.
The centre-back was forced past weekend throughout their draw with St Mirren off and scans have revealed medial ligament injury has been suffered by him.
Halkett has been a regular fixture in the side in the early phases of this campaign of Levein, scoring four goals at the Scottish League Cup and making 12 appearances in all competitions.
Levein said:Weve a fair concept, it will be around approximately ten weeks . however, it could be slightly more. It is disappointing on a range of fronts, of course for ourselves since he has been performing well, and because he has been doing well.
Following the midfielder was also forced off at St Mirren with a problem hearts are also very likely to function as Loic Damour for Saturdays visit of Kilmarnock.
He has not trained this week so thats an indication he could struggle for tomorrow Levein stated. The strategy is that he will do something now and then we will have to see if there is a reaction tomorrow before we can make a decision.
